Finding an amicable solution to a dispute is an Islamic obligation and also an act of Ibadah which attracts tremendous reward.

In Sura Hujurat, verse 9, Allah (SWT) commanded the believers to settle their dispute amicably.

“And if two groups of the Muslims fight each other, then make peace between them, … rectify between them with justice and do justice. Verily Allah loves the equitable.”

 In Sura Al-Nisa verse 128-129, after prescribing methods of resolving family disputes, Allah (SWT) commands the parties to compromise to achieve a peaceful resolution:
And if any woman be afraid of high-handedness or disregard from her husband, then there is no sin on them that they may reconcile among themselves and reconciliation is best….And if you reconcile, do good and be God fearing then undoubtedly, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”


Prophet (PBUH) said:

 I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for a man who avoids quarrelling even if he were in the right, a house in the middle of Paradise for a man who avoids lying even if he were joking, and a house in the upper part of Paradise for a man who made his character good.” Abu Dawood.

 “There was a dispute amongst the people of the tribe of Bani `Amr bin `Auf. The Prophet (ﷺ) went to them along with some of his companions in order to make peace between them…” Bukhari.

 “He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar.” Bukhari.

 “Once the people of Quba fought with each other till they threw stones on each other. When Allah’s Apostle was informed about it, he said, “Let us go to bring about a reconciliation between them.”  Bukhari.

 “One of the best kinds of intercession is interceding between two people concerning marriage.” Ibn Majah.

“One who brings peace between people is not a liar, he says something good, or reports something good.” Tirmizi.

“It is not lawful to lie except in three cases: Something the man tells his wife to please her, to lie to avoid war, and to lie in order to bring peace between the people.”
